2000 Toyota Soluna GLi review from Indonesia
"Outdated model equipped with new engine"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The engine cannot be started, I checked and found that the battery was dying. I bought a replacement and a week later it happened again. Then I found that the problem actually was with the car alarm. I changed the alarm, and everything was OK since then.
In overall, The car was fine. I just changed some parts that needed to be replaced (e.g. brake pads, wiper, oil and air filters).
General comments?
Toyota introduced Soluna to cater to low segment of the sedan market. When I first looked at it, the model was really really outdated. The car looks like 1980s Toyota Tercel.
When it was introduced, Suzuki also launched Baleno 1.5 liter at slightly lower price. Honda then followed by introducing City Type Z at much higher price.
What happened five years later (2005) was interesting: The resale value of City was the highest (because its original price was much higher), followed by Baleno, then Soluna.
Soluna's resale value has been decreasing over time as it is used by taxi companies here, so its image is deteriorating.
