1997 Toyota Starlet Life review from Australia and New Zealand
"Zippy"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Nothing.
General comments?
A fantastic little car. Extremely fuel efficient, relliable and zippy.
This is a great car, provided you never want to travel very far/fast in it.
Very zippy in the city, however going 110 on the freeway/highway is like driving a shopping trolley with rollerblades.
Braking at high speeds is dangerous as it does not have ABS, or EBD for that matter. It seems the back brakes lock before the front.
In 2003 the car was written off travelling 50km/h and hit a mercedes who failed to give way (their fault- ha ha) the Starlet completely folded up into nothing. The front end crumpled into the dashboard, windscreen broke and dashboard moved backwards by 13 cm on the passenger side.
Although I walked out of this one, I hate to see someone hit a stobey pole at 80km/h in one.
Merc owner funded my new car...
