1994 Toyota Starlet van review from Portugal
"Dependable, economical and very, very RELIABLE!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Water pump at 250000 km.
Break caliper front left at 298000 km.
Nothing else!
The clutch is the original one.
The engine and gearbox have never been overhauled.
Original rear shock absorbers also.
General comments?
Apart these two items, nothing went wrong in this car. It’s amazing how reliable, solid and durable these diesel Toyota are. Virtually, it seems indestructible and I’m sure that it will last for more than 700000 km without any major work! Of course, frequent oil and filter changes (every 5000 km) are important.
At this time, minor oil consumption (less than 1 l per 5000 km).
I drive more than 120 km / day and I can achieve a fuel average of 4.1l / 100km traveling at 110km/h, which means more than 830 km with a tank…
Only blemishes are lack of air conditioning (especially during southern Portugal summer…) and short legroom in the cabin.
I will ABSOLUTELY buy another Toyota, maybe a 2.0D Corolla.
