1987 Toyota Supra review from North America
"Best car I've owned!!!! Affordable, dependable, comfortable (for 2), practical, performance machine"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Head gasket needed replacing when I bought it at 105,000 miles... Had a better quality gasket put in, and have had no problems since... most supra turbos of this model will go through a headn gasket in its life.
Had a "break light failure sensor" go out; I don't think its that common, but Its like $140 bucks to replace it. Or you could do what I did, and strategically place paper clips to complete the circuit for free. Just now the dash won't tell me when a tail light goes out... Big Whoop. If you want to know how this is done, email me at corman1283@yahoo.com
other than that, virtually no problems.
General comments?
This car is fast, comfy, handles great, and runs smoothly all the time. I can't think of a car I'd rather have for the money, or maybe even double it.
I put on a magnaflow muffler ($150), and it sound absolutely beautiful... money well spent
I also put on custom rims (unique lug pattern shaves down selection, but do not despair!) ; once again, absolutely beautiful. Money well spent/
Finally, I put on a grant steering wheel, and I love it!
Uh, I tried several shift knobs, but always come back to the reliable, trusty origional... stick with that.
For a supra with good engine, interior, and just all around quality, look for one in the $5,000-$7,000 range.
