1979 Toyota T18 hatchback review from Australia and New Zealand
"No School like Old School"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Just a few things have gone wrong.
Bad Steering alignment.
New exhaust system.
New tires.
Full re-build (due to running a turbo)
General comments?
This car is very very very quick as it is a 1770cc (1.8L) 3tte (or 3tc with efi (electronically fuel injected) not carb and turbo) its running a gt17 Garrett turbo with 2tgue efi (witch is the 1.6L version of the T motor with double overhead cam) with 7mgte injectors.
Also has custom piping with a 300x250x60 inter-cooler.
At the moment its running on 18psi with stock internals as I have decompressed the head, still running a standard T50 gearbox with a performance excedy clutch with a 3.9:1 ratio diff (single spinner) and it can drift with a single spinner.
The exhaust is a custom tuned extractors to the gt17 turbo running external waist gate, off the turbo I have a full 3" system through a strait through muffler with a 7" barrel with a 5" droopy ricer cannon.
Also have AE86 (Toyota sprinter) coil-overs with slotted and vented disc's, ra60 Celica lower control arms giving me -5 camber also with lowered springs in the rear with short stroke shocks in the rear.
Also have R31 skyline disc's with custom caliper mounts, handbrake cables and brake lines.
Also have custom made surge tank for efi.
Have also custom interior 1 fix back race seat.
Sound system: have a new Kenwood DVD player with 2 Kenwood 12" subs 1000watt Kenwood bridgeable amp with 2 6" Kenwood 220 watt speakers.
Body kit: have a XF falcon after market front spoiler modified and fitted with KB laser side and rear skirts fiberglass bonnet with 3 vents, original TE72 fender mirrors original American TE series dual headlight conversion, shaved locks with remote central locking kit. New door and window seals all round.
After having this car in the family for 12 years and after me owning 4 of the for spares I find it a very trusting car.
This vehicle has round about 190rwkw and has phenomenal power enough to lose traction in 3rd and slip sideways.
Comments are welcome cheers Jarrod.
