1991 Toyota TownAce Super extra review from UK and Ireland
"A great family car for 8 and a reasonably sized kitchen sink"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The car has been serviced, new front tires and brake pads, but there has been no faults.
General comments?
We bought the Town Ace to cope with our expanding family, 3 children and occasionally Grandparents can be carried in palatial comfort. The trim level is excellent including dual air conditioning, twin sunroofs and electric curtains. The boot space is very good for an MPV, even with the rear row of seats in use, fold these up and you have a large cargo space.
There are no 3 point seat belts in the back however using the correct type of child seats this will not be a problem for the short term.
Performance is best describe as van like, the Townie is essentially that a van, with a very nice interior. It is capable of illegal speeds, but you do not feel the need to keep the pedal to the metal, and its happiest at about 65 mph. (this is the max speed in Japan, the Town Ace was designed for the home market). Seats are very comfortable
and the high driving position makes for a very relaxed drive.
For a large vehicle it is very easy to park, assisted by the various parking mirrors positioned front and aft.
Finding service items for the vehicle has proved quite easy all filters, pads, shocks etc are used on UK spec motors, Its just a matter of finding the correct part number.
We have the two rear rows of seats facing each other this increases the rear leg room and allows the plenty of space for eating at rest brakes without having to take everyone into motorway service stations.
