1989 Toyota Van LE review from North America
"A fun van that hangs on to life like it fears death"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The rear sliding door fell off and the back door doesn't open. It has oil leaks, exhaust leaks, and a charming hole in the muffler. When it's wet out it has trouble getting going.
General comments?
This car ran through the mountains without oil. It ws trashed and rusted out when I got it, but it hangs on like it fears death. I expected the whole thing to rust out and everything vital to fall off, but so far just the door. The seats are relatively comfortable, except for the fact that the engine is beneath the front seats which gets a little hot in the summer. It overheats in the mountains, but that may be due to it's many oil leaks or other problems. In general the people who designed this had to have been a little crazy as the windshield washer fluid is in the back. I look forward to trying the new toyota van--the sienna.
