2001 Toyota Yaris SR review from UK and Ireland
"An reliable, good looking, `warm` hatch"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Nothing.
General comments?
In caribbean blue metallic paint with subtle alloy wheels the SR Yaris truly looked the part. Coupled with aircon, single CD player and a host of other goodies now taken for granted (electric windows, for one) it was well equipped too. Performance from the 1.3 was brisk when needed though the characteristic of the VVTi engine meant revs had to be high to extract the most from it. Pulling away at low speed always felt as if the car was in the wrong gear - irrespective of what gear it was in!
Fuel consumption gave no cause for concern and 40mpg would be achieved in or out of the city with ease - high fortys being the norm on legal limit motorway journeys.
At 6` 4" I found the headroom (no sunroof) to be excellent along with the front leg room. The seats were satisfactory, but ideally suited for shorter journeys.
Not much can be added really. It always started first time, never gave any cause for concern, looks as fresh now as the day we picked it up and was serviced by a satisfactory (not brilliant) dealership at a reasonable cost.
Whilst we would buy another we have strayed from the Toyota marque after five years and two different Yaris models to Skoda, as much for a change as anything.
My wife collects her Fabia vRS next week which has a lot to live up to.
