Front speaker crackled from new, took 3 attempts by main dealer before it was fixed.
Front drivers seat creaks when cornering.
Rear brake drag, causing excess heat in pads, Vauxhall allows you to drive the car with faulty brakes. After 2 attempts, Vauxhall dealer changed rear brake calipers, known fault.
Engine cam speed sensor faulty at 10K miles.
A good car, with bad dealer backup, and appalling quality control. Slowly getting all problems fixed. After 7 months from new, 8 trips to the garage and 20K miles.
I know all about Vauxhalls attitude to brake safety, my 1998 1.8 Sport had a brake fault in which under very heavy braking the front right tyre would lock up while the other three tyres were controled by the ABS, this caused the car to veer violently to the right (about 4-5 feet) and obviously was very dangerous. Two other collegues could also reproduce the fault on their cars.
Vauxhall denied this was a production fault, but after having my car at the Luton factory for 8 weeks found the cause to be the brake master cylinder which did cure the problem. How many Astra drivers are driving around in a car which will let them down in an emrgency stop ? Vauxhall will never know as they refuse to do a recall as this is not a "known" problem. QED.
Brakes have been a weak point on Vauxhall cars - particularly Astras - for at least the past 20 years. This is a shame as the Vauxhalls I've owned have been relatively
trouble free apart from these issues.
Stuck calipers seem to be a particular problem. Watch out for grinding noises indicating that the brake pads are through to the backing...
