1992 Vauxhall Calibra 2.0 16v review from UK and Ireland
"All round nice car for looks and comfort, but can be a little costly on repairs"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Noisy follower at start up.
Both swinging arms replaced as bushes and ball joints totally gone.
Cat needs replaced.
Rear Silencer.
Four branch manifold needs replaced as thin near underside end.
High Pressure Oil Cooler Pipes.
Track rod ends.
General comments?
Great looking car with what I think is good handling even at speed on our narrow country roads, but the engine is a problem with the noisy follower at first start-up also lumpy and powerless until fully warmed up which takes some time.
Annoyed that the high pressure oil cooler pipes were only available from Vauxhall at £100 each and that I had to buy a new cooler as the alloy of the pipe ends had corroded to the alloy of the cooler. BEWARE of this costly problem.
I thought the 2.0 16v would have lots of kick, but have a bit of a lull when the boot goes down until take-off at 3,000 rpm. Is this normal? I swear my older 8v model was quicker off it's mark, but not so fast in the mid-high range. Still, it leaves most other cars in it's wake and is fun to drive.
