2008 Vauxhall Corsa VXR review from UK and Ireland
"Absolutely brilliant. Buy one of these 100%"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
I can honestly say I have had this car for a couple of weeks now and not had a problem with it.
General comments?
After recently having a Citroen C2 VTS for 5 years, which gave me nothing but trouble, I decided I needed a change so I went out and purchased a Vauxhall Corsa VXR.
After driving many cars, I have to say that this car is not for the young driver as it is seriously quick, it is a tool and not a toy. You have to think where and when you're going to put your foot down as the torque is amazing.
Get it in 3rd gear at 1,500 RPM, put your foot to the floor and in comes the overboost, and it just smacks you in your seat with so much torque. With 0 - 60 in just over 6 seconds, you ain't going to get much better than this unless you spend big money.
My mate has a Civic Type R, and on the tamp it sticks to that's like something else although it does not tripod like the Type R does with handling, the handling is still not an issue.
The rasp from the turbo is just something else; it sucks, bangs and pops upon gear change.
The cabin is absolutely brilliant with leather Recaro bucket seats in the front, which hold you like a vice, and the back seats are also leather as well. You also have chrome finishes everywhere, VXR logos through out the car, square steering wheel, which also has VXR logo with chrome plate on the bottom of it.
As for leg room in the back, I'm 5ft 11, and my brother is over 6 ft tall, and he has no problem sitting behind me when I'm driving. The boot is also OK for a decent amount of shopping if you take the shelf, which sits half way through the boot, out - it makes the boot a lot deeper, and it can handle a good £100 shop from the local supermarket.
Overall, when you buy a car you need to feel connected with it, and this is exactly what Vauxhall has done. It makes you smile every time you get in it.
One bit of advice; go out and test drive one, you won't be disappointed.
