1994 Vauxhall Omega GLS review from UK and Ireland
"More quality than you can shake a spanner at, for banger money"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
When I got the car, the offside wiper arm was rubbing on the bonnet. A mounting had come adrift, and I fashioned a bracket and secured it to the inner wing with a length of stud bar, sounds like a Heath Robinson type repair, it was, but a good one. Also had to replace the brake shoes, which only operate on the handbrake. The sump plug had to be undone with a chisel, thank you for making them with splines instead of the old hexagon. Otherwise no problems of note.
General comments?
This was an ex taxi, and may well have done a lot more miles than the odometer said, and although the gear lever felt like it was stirring lumpy custard, the car handled fine. It was a dream to drive compared with my old Rover 214, and good to return to the Vauxhall fold. This car was only a stop gap, but a good cheap one. I replaced this car with another Omega, this time the 2.5 V6 CDX, never looked back.
