1996 Vauxhall Vectra LS review from UK and Ireland

Crankshaft Sensor (nearly £200)

Central Locking (every now and then)

ABS (turns itself off occasionally, restarting the car cures this)

Reverse Lights don't work (gear box sensor I guess, not bulbs)

Occasional Idle cut out when approaching roundabouts on dual carriageways mainly. This means that Power steering and brakes fail. (To avoid an accident pull you foot of the clutch and the engine turns again)

Alternator broke at 75k (£150ish)

Front Disks needed replacement at 75k (£180ish)

Cam belt done at 75K (£250ish)

Remote unlock sensor in car stops working during spring (no idea what that's about)

Rust has started showing around rear door catches.

Constant re-alignment of Tracking required, (every 6 months it gets checked and requires doing.)

Comfortable family car that does well for camping due to the huge boot space. It is a little loud in the back on motorways and a touch cramped for 3 fully grown adults, but excellent to drive.

It handles well and you get plenty of feedback from the power steering.

This model was originally bought as a fleet car and has Air Conditioning fitted. (standard on Fleet spec I am told.) Air Con is lovely and has never given a problem although activating it gives a noticeable drop in performance and around town if you have to nip out of a junction quickly its best done with aircon off.

Although performance is adequate I have often thought I should have bought the 2 liter. Especially when the air conditioning is on.
