2005 Vauxhall Vectra GSi review from UK and Ireland
"A powerful, classy, refined motor car"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
None.
General comments?
This is one seriously big lump of motor car. Everything about this car exudes class. I previously owned a Vectra 2.2 DTi Elegance, which was a nice car and very economical with my Mr practical frugal head on. But the GSi is in a different class altogether. OK, so I compromised on the economy, in a big way. The mpg has almost halved. I was getting around 60 mpg from the diesel and I get low 30's from the GSi on my daily commute. But that is the ONLY negative. In my opinion there are so many positives about this car you can easily justify the mpg. For starters, I bought the GSi at only 5 months old and with 2500 miles on the clock. It was virtually brand new. The new list price, including the optional extras, was a shade under £24000. I payed £13500 a saving of £10500 (to save you doing the maths) in only 5 months! The extras are Colour Satellite Navigation, Xenon headlights with Adaptive Forward Lighting (AFL) and front and rear parking sensors. These extras make an already very complete car that bit extra special. For me, the best part is the engine. The power, performance, smoothness and sound make for a very satisfying drive. The car purrs along during normal driving, and gives a very satisfying growl when accelerating quickly. On a longer run the car returned 37 mpg which I feel is very respectable. This was with sensible driving (in other words sticking to the speed limits) but without compromising the excitement of decent acceleration. Although this is a Vectra, of which there are no short supply on the UK roads, there is something about the GSi that set's it apart. It has a presence on the road that makes it something a bit special. There are not too many GSi's around which help it in this respect. I have noticed a few heads turn, particularly on petrol station forecourts. It does look stunning in black sapphire especially when just washed and waxed. All in all, I am very happy with this car and intend to keep it for many years. If the opportunity arises to own one, grab it with both hands, you won't regret it!
