2001 Vauxhall VX220 review from UK and Ireland
"You have to drive one to understand the experience"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Bonnet lever fell off in my hand on first day, v. simple to fix.
Flat battery, probably my own fault for not taking it out. was snoing that week tho :)
General comments?
Obviously this car is designed around the legendary Lotus Elise. You can tell that the fella's from hethnal have had the majority of input in the VX. All the better I say. Apart from the bodywork, the only real Vauxhall trademarks are ABS, airbag and a few bits of Astra instrumentation.
When in the car it is clear what the car is designed for, DRIVING. The low slung driving position and the presence of the flared arches in you're eye line truly set the tone. As you turn the key and hit that starter button you know there's an engine with meaning powering those rear wheel's. As you shift through the gear box and slot into first you realise you can feel and hear everything in this car, this add's to the experience. When you hit the road it is hard to describe as the car is so neutral the brake's would be improved without the ABS though in my opinion. The performance is v. impressive and overtaking is easy with the low down power, it never struggles. Swing into a corner and fire out, litterally. Be carefull in the wet though, those rear wheels mite try to overtake you otherwise. Then when you have finished you clamber out of the tiny gap, lock the door and look back knowing that every time you drive the car it will be an experience and not just a 'chore'
