2002 Volkswagen Beetle review from North America
"A Great Girlie Car"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The turn signals malfunctioned and had to be replaced.
The motor in the window on the driver's side had to be replaced.
One of the electric keys broke.
The stereo suddenly stopped working. A fuse maybe? and had to be replace for $35.
When the tire went flat I discovered that the jack was the type where you have to turn the knob to raise up the car. Why oh why would a company that markets cars to women make a jack that you have to turn by hand? I ended up having to call for help on a dark rainy highway in the middle of winter.
The airbag light went on, and according to the dealer whatever is wrong with it will cost $500 to fix.
Nothing is cheap to fix on this car.
General comments?
I love my little VW, and nothing major has gone wrong with it yet. It gets good gas mileage, and I plan to keep it as long as possible. It does seem that strange things keep breaking. Personally I think the air bag thing should be a recall...it's just not safe.
My bigger problem is with my dealer who takes forever to make repairs. (I made an appointment, and came in at 7:00 a.m., only to wait 2 and a half hours for a diagnosis. They didn't do any work, they only recognized the problem!)
