I actually leased the new "Beetle" so I only have one more year to go before I can unload this car.
First week of ownership: sunroof jammed, took it in (under warranty) they fixed it.
Second week: sunroof jammed, piece fell out into the car, worked great since.
I am now unwilling to pay again for the window switches to be placed on and operating, the first time it was under warranty. T.
He second time, my 2 year warranty (big mistake not buying the extended) was up so I paid. One month later when it fell off again, I took it in thinking they would replace it free because it had only been a month since they repaired it.
I have to pay again for this repair apparently they authorized dealer/repair shop doesn't guarantee their work.
I have also refused to pay for the 3rd time to repair the fuel cover, which doesn't lock anymore.
I am also not going to pay for the peeling on the interior door handles which began about 3 months after I purchased it.
After I brought my car in the last time the repair guy told me if I paid for the repair it would be the last time (windows) because Volkswagon has replaced the plastic motor/wheel one with a metal one. When I called Volkswagon, I was told they'll pay for the part, but I have to pay for the labor to replace it.
I'm taking it "as is" back to the dealership I leased it from. I'm sure they aren't going to accept it without the window switches and fuel door being repaired.
How many vehicles does this have to happen to before they recall?
If they know it's a problem and are replacing it with new parts, aren't you supposed to be notified?
I know what you mean about the problems with this car! My gas cover has always been a problem and now my airbag light is on and the outside mirror control broke off! Cheap plastic!!! I'll never buy another VW product! At least I do have a good dealership (for a price that is) :)
I have had very similar problems with my Beetle. The door handles peeled, window switch fell off...twice, the horn doesn't work, the CD and tape player are broken, and you can't even change the tail light without taking it in to the dealer! This will be my first and last VW!
Bugged in SC.
It's Volkswagen, not Volkswagon.
So we all think we have problems here's mine... Yesterday I watched my beetle burn to the ground after catching on fire. Anyone hear of that before??
I think the original poster inadvertently points out another valid thing to keep in mind: Never lease a car longer than its warranty. Why should you pay for repairs for a car you are "renting"?
