The ignition switch was cold sensitive and was replaced. When the outside temperature dropped below minus 20 celcius the solenoid would not
kick-in. I discovered this by leaving an electric car warmer in the car over night and the ignition switch worked.
A remarkably nimble and stable cruiser. Transmission is smooth and precise for a 5 speed. Surprising top end of 185 km/hour.
Such a VW Beetle does exist and has since the 1930's. Sold in the US until 1984. They stopped making the rear engine Porsche-style car in 2003. Now people in Mexico and South America will have to suffer with the one you have.
If anyone out there is interested in seeing the 1998 and later beetle have the engine in the back, I would be very interested in doing a documentary about this mod. It would take a monster garage episode style to do it. After that, an SHO engine in a Taurus Wagon would be next and then the VW TDI engine in a 17 foot stern drive boat. How about it you vwphiles? Let's do the beetle engine swap to the back. weB50@hotmail.com.
