2001 Volkswagen Beetle GLX review from North America
"VW needs to get their quality fixed ASAP>"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The first warning should have been all dealer service receipts in the glove box. They were all "minor" electrical issues so I paid no attention.
After market fuel filter prevented the car from starting.
At 55,000 miles I went to have the timing belt replaced. It was due and the car had been running poorly. Turns out the fuel injection pump was "defective". Even though it was deemed defective the dealer would not help with the $1800 service. If it had happened at 50000 miles it would have been covered.
All other replacement parts and service have been expensive.
General comments?
Very fun to drive. I love the turbo and it stands out. My kinds love their "bug car"
The gas mileage is incredible. I can never remember the last time I had to fill up.
Because of the cons I am selling the Beetle and going Japanese. There is a lot to be said for reliability.
