The rear hatch refuses to open when it is cold.
The door handle is peeling.
Gas flap refuses to close and has been replaced twice.
The car has sluggish acceleration.
This car handles great for a car of it's price.
The interior is very roomy in the front, but the rear seats are not useful.
It has 50,000 miles on it and I have had no major problems.
The dealer is very helpful and is always nice.
I intend to keep this car for many years.
My door panels peeled too and VW was more than happy to cover the cost of replacement. Actually I convinced my dealership to replace the logos in the front and rear also when they were peeling due to sun exposure here in Arizona. There was no problem VW understands the importance of customer service.
When purchasing my bug I negotiated for free life time oil changes so I do not have to deal with after market non VW shops and the worries that come along with them.
I avoided automatic windows just because how hard is it to unroll two windows; it turned out to be the best decision I ever made. I hear so may people complaining about the automatic windows.
My rear hatch does need to be oiled in the winter because it sticks, but, when maintained by the dealership all issues have gone away.
Due to the low profile of the car, I hit a LARGE rock thus cracked the oil plan and froze the engine. I’m happy because insurance covered a new engine and it cost me close to nothing. Now I’m back to 6,000 miles on the new engine.
VW is awesome to deal with and very reasonable. On that note I only take my 2002 New Bug to the dealer for service. I have had no major issues and about $500 out of pocket costs (because of the engine replacement) in 3 years and feel that that is very reasonable. I would never give up my bug!
