1990 Volkswagen Corrado G60 upped to G83 from North America - Comments

"Initially too little factory support. A radical and superb vehicle!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Initial dealer support was a horrifying:

3 batteries.

2 radiator fans.

3 water pumps.

10 oil leaks.

1 ECU failure.

3 starters - thus damaging.

1 flywheel.

1 leaky heater core.

2 driveshaft harmonic balance failures.

3 sunroof failures

All of the above in the first 3 years!!

The sunroof still is not fixed and I never replaced the driveshaft harmonic balance after the 2nd occurance.

The factory warranty covered most items and the remainder by an addtional service contract.

Just remember NEVER, EVER, PURCHASE A VEHICLE FROM "RAY FLADABOE" IN IRVINE, CA (USA)

General comments?

Having previously owned a "grey market" 914-6 with a 2.7L, I was used to trips to the service department and headaches.

The research and development of the G60 Corrado made owning the car a dream!

Specificly the TEC GT-1 upgrade from the G60!

SERVICE HISTORY:

1994 & 1999 the struts have been replaced. Original suspension except Hor Technologie Springs to lower the car.

1998 New cylinder head from the dealership - Never, ever drive your Corrado hot! The original paper headgasket contributed to this.

1998 Upgraded to TEC GT1 (G83). The orig. G60 had over 200K miles on it.

Why on earth give the dealer 8/10 considering the obvious trauma and suffering he has caused you?

I own a 1990 Corrado and at 136,000miles it is still running like a dream besides a bit of wear and tear. When you buy any car you must treat it with care, many of the faults your car had in the first three years must have been a result of how the car was used.
