1992 Volkswagen Corrado G60 review from UK and Ireland
"Basically just a toy. Just a bit further up the ladder than a train set"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The sunroof mechanism is broken on one side. It is repairable, but costly to do so.
It's very slowly leaking water from somewhere, and needs to be topped up once every few weeks.
Had to change one of the front wheel bearings which had seized.
The interior is great - full black leather, but no air conditioning, so in the summer, it gets really hot and sticky, and you end up with a nice damp patch on the back of your shirt.
General comments?
This car goes like a bat out of hell, and with a couple of minor tweaks to the engine (chip, supercharger pulley conversion), it would be seriously fast.
The suspension is firm but not bumpy, it handles like a dream, so long as the road is flat. It tends to bounce if it hits a bump on a bend.
You may wonder why I've put 10/10 for fuel economy, but if you drive it the right way, it can give you nearly 37 MPG. Then again, if you can go fast, why not?
A real head turner. A car well on its way to 'classic' status. Is it a Golf? Is it a Passat? No! It's the Corrado!!!
