1993 Volkswagen Corrado SLC from North America - Comments

14th Jun 2000, 11:24

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Wheel bearing, oxygen sensor, some minor electrical problems.

General comments?

The Corrado is a blast to drive, and with the limited number produced, is almost destined to be a classic. The North American Volkswagen dealer network should be ashamed - "genuine" parts are incredibly expensive, service people are curt and arrogant, etc. The car is sort of hard to work on yourself, however with patience it can be done. The car is the second most comfortable car I have ever owned, besides a 1981 Jaguar XJ6. It attracts lots of attention, and is pretty decent on fuel consumption. I am happy with the decision to purchase the car, but probably would not buy another Volkswagen based on the high price of parts and dealer service.

Hey. I'm 17, but I have fallen in love with this car. From what I hear it is a blast to drive and handles well, But I rarely see them. And they look great. Does anyone know where I could find one? A manual that is. I have seen one in Scarborough Ontario (I live in Canada}, but its bumper is missing. Should I buy it?

Go for it. Corrado's are really hard to find. I had a 90 G60 that I totaled, but about a month and a half later I found a 94 VR6 in Hoffman Estates, IL which is 12 miles away from my home. My father and I talked about the car and I ended up buying the car with help from my parents. It was not cheap. the car was 17,500. this is the reason why it was so expensive, it only had 6,443 original miles when I bought it. I've had it for 3 months now and I will find a beater in the summer to rarely drive this car because I would like to keep it under 20,000 miles. Believe it or not, but no joke it had less than 7,000 miles and I can prove it. Go for the car just remember it is expensive to maintain. Whether it is a G60 or VR6 this car will become a classic someday. If you ever do get a chance to drive a VR6 from a G60 try it, there is a huge power difference.

Why give it = (based on those comments (original message). The car is a true modern classic. Find an unmolested example (the VR6 is the pinnacle), and be prepared to be extremely happy for the money. There are many great forums to give you a hand if you feel handy.

Mine has everything you'd conceivably want. Power steering, seats (heated), sunroof, windows, mirrors, spoiler, good gas mileage 8Litres/100 HW to 10-12 Litres/100 City. Recaro seats, 2.8 V6, stupid handling, looks, cult status...
