1994 Volkswagen Corrado VR6 review from UK and Ireland

"The best all-rounder? Definately the best VW ever made!!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Generally the Corrado has proved to be very reliable.

It goes through oil, so you must keep a watching eye on the levels.

Front tyres do not last very long.

Front brakes do not last particularly long either.

General comments?

This car is fantastic!

Previous cars have included; a 306 XSi, Cavalier GSi, Nissan 300zx Twin Turbo (manual!) and a BMW 3 series coupe. Without a doubt the Corrado has been the best ownership prospect.

Not only is it reliable, but it feels just at home cruising on a motorway or attacking a country lane at full pace.

Be wary, front tyre choice is crucial. There is a lot of weight over those front tyres and theyhave a lot of power to put down. I have been caught out in the wet and would strongly recommend only using premium brand tyres.

The sound this thing makes is fantastic, a subtle throb when idling and below 3k, then as soon as the rev limiter passes 4k a glorious howl until the redline.

Although slated by some for 'powering the wrong wheels', it really is great fun to drive. There is just the right amount of weight to the steering and ride that you know exactly what is going on beneath you without jarring or crashing over bumps.

Until now, the longest I have owned a car is 6 months. I cannot imagine selling this car in 6 years. It really is such a good all-rounder, what could possibly replace it?

I rencently drove a Golf R32, which admittidly is a great car. It is fast, comfortable and refined, but there is something missing - to be honest, it has no soul. With the Corrado, you know exactly what it is doing, you work with the car. The R32 feels like a Playstation game, yes it is quicker than the Corrado, but ultimately it is not as much fun. It feels like the computers and gizmos are there to stop you from hurting yourself, but also stop you from enjoying driving the car.

I honestly believe the Corrado VR6 is the best VW ever made.
