1993 Volkswagen Fox Polo Wolfsburg review from North America
"Sweet!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The Fuel pressure rugulator was noisy when I bought it, that's a $10 part, but the Used Car dealer thought it was the $500 set of fuel pumps, so the price was dropped.
The Drivers side window regulator went out, easy $12 fix.
The valve cover gasket started to leak, another easy fix.
Broken windshield, twice, but that would be some one elses fault.
General comments?
This is one awesome car. There are plenty aftermaket engine modifications, the drivetrain parts can come off any VW as far back as 1981. These are Brazilian built cars, so the durability is not as good as the german ones, but it ran excellent until the day I sold it. For the price it's a better buy then a Honda Civic. It is very easy to learn how to build engines on this model because of the layout, also the SOHC engine is a simple one.
The car came with a 5 speed quick ratio out of a 84 GTI for that extra oomph to get it past the 110 mph barrier.
Warning, this car is light, so if you've got tires over 205 width, you might have a problem keeping attached to the road at speeds over 120.
I would buy another one in a heart beat.
An engine transplant from a TDI, a V6 or a DOHC would be very interesting, and it is possible since all VW parts are interchangable, no matter where the VW is built.
