1987 Volkswagen Golf CL review from UK and Ireland
"Great little runner, but would need to be maintained well"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Automatic choke went at 80000.
General comments?
First car for me, learned and took test in it. Was reliable and great fun to drive with average fuel consumption and relatively good conditioned interior.
Low mileage for the age of the car, but still I believe with goood maintenance it would have served many more miles.
Just after the mot the automatic choke went and the car started drinking the fuel and struggling to drive up hills (to be in 2nd gear to 40mph before a chance of changing up), have had to go down to 3rd on motorway to make it up a hill, pretty appauling. Sold to a mechanic friend of mine. I heard that it is a common issue with this car, however if your willing to repair and give it a bit of tlc it can be a nice little runner.
