1986 Volkswagen Golf GTi review from UK and Ireland
"Watch out for lemons"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
More a case of what HASN'T gone wrong with the car. :(
Complete engine overhaul. Valves were totally shot through. New engine was sourced and installed. Car was _still_ buggered at the end of it.
Cracked exhaust manifold.
New speedo & rev counter assembly.
Replaced window winders, both sides cables bust.
Went through 4 fuel pumps in 6 months.
Burnt oil like no tommorrow.
General comments?
I've no doubt I bought a lemon - it must've had a helluva time before I got it, as it was completely shot when I received it.
Cleaned it up, fixed as much as I could on a limited budget then part-ex'd it.
When it actually started, it'd go like a bomb! Unfortunately, it'd start once in a blue moon.
