1997 Volkswagen Golf GL review from North America
"The Golf is a rabbit in sheep's clothing"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Well, I bought the car after it was deemed"totaled." so I spent much time and effort to rebuild the front driver's nose. I had the front frame rail fixed by a autobody expert. The main problem I have is getting the engine light to stay off. Some say it is an oxygen sensor, wich I replaced. Sadly it still came on after the repair. The solution for me was a bit of black electrical tape over the light, all fixed!
General comments?
The 1997 Golf is a nice looking car, and gets good gas mileage, I'd say 35 mpg on the highway. All the econo-tuner people want to race you, as well as other Jetta's. It goes fast, in spite of the 4 cylinder 2.0 liter engine. Maybe the vr6 would be more zoomy though...
