1997 Volkswagen Golf GL review from North America
"Don't buy VW"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
What hasn't gone wrong with it? Since I purchased it, I have put over $4000 (Canadian) into it beyond regular wear & tear maintenance. What I can remember off hand - New water pump, thermostat, oil pan, brakes & rotors (garage that did a pre-buy inspection said brakes were fine!), back windshield wiper piece (2x), molding keeps falling off (contact cement works - for a while) and it stalls when I idle which no one seems to know how to fix.
General comments?
I will never buy VW again.
I love the way the car handles in the winter and it's zip, but my suggestion is, if you're keen on VW, buy NEW and sell it once the warranty runs out.
