2003 Volkswagen Golf GLS review from North America
"The Golf GLS TDI offers the advantages of compact while satisfying the urges of the car enthusiast."
What things have gone wrong with the car?
So far, so good. Overall reliability has been outstanding. No faults.
General comments?
Feels very solid and well made. A truly fun car to drive.
Seats are firm and comfortable, and controls are easy to reach and use. Best interior of any car I've ever owned. Shifting action was a bit stiff when new, but has loosened nicely.
It still sounds like a diesel, but you can't hear the engine from inside the car. Gas mileage is excellent, and the engine feels responsive and runs cool. Decent power, not overwhelming, but more than adequate.
Great handling, precise steering, easy to park.
I like the looks of the car very much. The Golf has that classic "Euro" style that separates it from the hoards of compact cars out there... which is why I didn't buy the Jetta.
A solid purchase. I'm very happy with my Golf. It is one car that didn't disappoint me; it is exactly what I thought it would be.
