2002 Volkswagen Golf SE review from UK and Ireland

ABS failure.

Faulty Door handles.

Central locking sticking.

Rear wipers fell off.

I bought this car after a year after feeling like an upgrade from my first car, a baby Toyota. Unfortunately this has been a miscalculated and costly decision and one I really regret since my Toyota and the dealers were wonderful (and reliable).

Although the car looks great in the show room and handles very nicely I have found that its beauty is only skin deep. From my second week the ABS failure lights came on and the system would jump into action sporadically at low speeds at one time catching me totally unawares so I narrowly missed an accident. VW were unapologetic. Apparently this is down to my poor driving sensibilities?

After 3000 miles the rear wiper literally just fell off whilst using it

in heavy rain.

And finally the doors, seals,and central locking mechanisms all seem totally knackered. In short they have all failed with the doors not locking and they leak at the front wells.

In short I wouldn't recommend the car. This is a shame as when it works, it is fantastic and powerful but faults like these shouldn't be happening on such a young car! I bought it as a graduation treat and it's been a bothersome disappointment.
