Rattle from glove box (not an unusual occurrence looking at this list!)
An excellent car overall - very impressive in all areas. Let down by not-quite-Volkwagen-like build quality and poor dealers, but at the end of the day, this is truly a great car that I would fully recommend.
Great looking car with an attractive and comfortable interior.
Performance is very good at low and high speeds, matched with amazing economy and good motorway refinement.
Over 50MPG easily achievable on longer trips.
Quality of the car is superficially very good, but there are a number of rattles and areas that are not of the high standards expected of Volkswagen.
Dealers are appalling - disorganized and unhelpful. Because of the quality of their product range, they clearly feel that they do not need to bother in terms of customer care - VW needs to put some focus into this before it begins to lose customers.
I have just gone through the painful round again of buying a used Golf. Comments about the poor level of current VW dealerships are quite valid. I have been a long term VW owner and have noticed as the buildings get smarter the quality of attention and service reduces. It is especially noticeable where an area is covered exclusively by a group giving them some exclusivity and protection from aggressive neighbouring dealerships. Undoubtedly they can verge on arrogant and if they twig you are a committed golf user or are looking for a golf there is almost a feel of they are doing the buyer a favour, this may of course change if you are buying new and quite probably not be the case if you were looking for a Lupo Polo Bora or Passat. That said I just bought a car at an established dealership in western Manchester who were the opposite, excellent, but maybe because they do not have exclusive access to a large market area and are surrounded by competing VW dealers they know they cannot afford to be complacent. VW should be looking into this.. how about sending around some ghost customers???
