2001 Volkswagen Golf GLS TDI review from North America
"My first Lemon"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Wheel bearings changed 2 times under warranty (40000km), and again at 70000, after which the dealer decided it was the casing causing the bearings to go. Also after the casings were replaced, the dealer did not re-align the wheels which caused the brand new tires to wear out in 2 months!
My Auto up feature does not work properly. Once the front windows are up the come down again half way.
At 90000 motor lost all power. Dealership said it was the mass air sensor and replaced it. The next day the car would not drive again! This time the dealership said it was carbon build up in the intakes. I spent $1200 in 2 days.
104000km car is towed to dealership with same problem as above. I am currently waiting on a volkswagen factory technician to oversee the work and to inspect all previous work done to this car.
General comments?
I'm sure my car is a lemon. I have a 1986 jetta that runs better on 3 cylinders.
I have a feeling that, do to my young age, I am being taken advantage of by the dealership I currently go to.
Especially with the dealer knowing I have assistance from my parents to help pay the outrageous bills.
It is too bad that this car has been so much trouble. I probably won't ever buy Volkswagen again.
