Hi there, I have had a Golf GTI 2.0lt 18v and a Passat 1.8t 20v, and just bought my VR6 6 weeks ago, and it's the mutt's nuts.

Like the rest of the comments, the sound of the V6 is awesome, and for a 11 year old car it's just unbeatable value, and they're the coolest and original hot hatch. All I can say about your car being not fast enough is that it's been ragged to death, or maybe you're not driving it with respect.

I just bought a stock VR6 about 2 months ago. It is pretty damn quick, but I do have to say it's not as quick as the WRX. Don't get me wrong, the VR definitely keeps up, but the WRX seems to pull that little bit more at the end of the gears. But then that's what a turbo does.

Hi guys, just bought my first VR6 at an auction in Sydney Aus. It is an OBD1 94 model. The car has done 145kms and purrs like a pussy cat.

I have had no issues with it, it does not eat oil, timing chain isn't too noisy, and once you hit about 3 / 3 and a half thousand rpm there are not many cars made in the 90s that could go toe to toe with a VR6 as a complete package. So to all you dubbers, especially VR6 owners, keep riding that torque curve.

Remember, if you treat anything with a bit of respect, it will respect you back.

So do you think Mercedes or a Passat are any more reliable?

One thing to remember when buying any used car over 10 years old is to buy on condition. Did you get yours inspected?

Next time you buy a car, check out honestjohn review section. This will give you the lowdown on all used car's faults/recalls etc.

Hope this helps!

Well let's get started. I'm 22 now, but I wanted a VR6 last year. After many insurance searches I couldn't find a policy I could afford, so I thought let's just get a GTi and put the VR engine in. Great idea, so I bought a 1997 pristine golf mk3 2 litre 8 valve, which was slow as f~~k. Needed more power, so I bought a 1995 2.8 VR6 from a friend. My car was taken to a local garage and the engines removed. Eventually, after loads of blood, sweat and tears, my car was now a working standard VR6. I loved the noise it made so much I went flat out everywhere, hence it went bang LOL. Seized hole in block, finished, don't get me wrong, it was quick, however I've just had a 2.9 Corrado VR6 put in with all my 2.8 ancillaries and it works??? However I need a VR6 turbo fuel pump and a remap as it runs lumpy when driven slow.

In all I've fitted a polished ported throttle body, viper induction kit, polished ported inlet manifold, and a full Ashley exhaust including manifold. It's a absolute rocket (faster again once remap and fuel pump hopefully) and sounds a dream. I would recommend anybody follow suit. BYE BYE SUBARU IMPREZA/ BMW 325I/ASTRA GSI TURBO and the soundtrack to match the performance.
