Glove box lid broke
Cooling fans needed replacing.
Performance
The performance is amazing, its widely acknowledged as being faster than the 1.8T petrol (150). Also, many are producing as much as 165 BHP!!
Economy
Being a diesel its very good. VW's PD units sacrifice some increased noise for more performance and economy. The car averages about 45 mpg, not bad for a car that hits 60 in under 8 seconds.
Dealer
Not always a pleasant experience. Varies from dealer to dealer. I use a trusted independent who is cheaper and just as knowledgeable.
Handelling
Not the mk iv's strong point. This chassis is not set up like a hot hatch. It makes more sence as a GT car, sporty and comfortable. A more grown up performance hatchback.
Whats it like to live with
Very good, as are all VW's. Everything works well, heaters, demisters etc. The steering wheel has rake and reach adjustment and both front seats are height adjustable. Its quiet when cruising on the motorway.

I'm a little disillusioned with VW. After numerous little faults and niggles I sold my car. '02 models are having an issue with worn camshafts - the last straw for me!
I'm now driving a Mazda 2.0 Petrol Sport. I wasn't going to give VW any more money and buy a MK V.
4 Months of owning a Mazda I'd still choose it over a VW.
A mazda what?? mazda 3?
I own a 02 golf gttdi 150 with 106,000(miles) on the clock and have had no such incidents?only thing I can complain about is some infuriating rattles in the dash!!
