1995 Volkswagen Golf GTi 8v review from UK and Ireland
"Solid, Germanic and classless"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Coil pack failed £50
ecu and fuel pump relays replaced £9 & £13
front ABS sensors failed. £37 each
General comments?
It's not the GTI it should be.
That's the bad bit over with.
The Mk3 is heavier than the mk2 it replaced so isn't as agile or fast, but makes up for it by being safer and much more comfortable.
Most should have all the toys (electric windows, sunroof and mirrors) plus ABS and PAS.
The few things that have gone wrong are all common mk3 faults and are easliy rectified for £50 or less if you can DIY.
I fitted mine with Eibach sports springs which improved the cornering without sacrificing comfort.
Having a decent amount of torque makes progress easy without the need to rev the nuts of it all the time and motorway miles just melt away.
It's well built and still feels solid compared to some brand new cars I've driven (pug 206,fiat stilo HA!).
All in all, not the streetracer the mk1 or 2 was, but a grown up GTI for the more mature driver.
