2002 Volkswagen GTI 1.8T review from North America

The lights on the stereo died.

The stereo lost most of it's volume, I took it to the dealer, and they didn't fix it, said it was a fuse. I took it back, and they replaced it.

The right passenger window broke in the open position. I had to leave it at the dealer for 3 weeks to get it fixed. The rental car supplied to me was crummy.

They refused to fix the left driver window, until it fails the same way the right one did. Hopefully it doesn't fail during winter, or during a long trip. The window is a recall by the way.

The cup holder got stuck. They replaced it.

The trim piece beneath the radio fell off. They replaced it.

The temperature gauge comes on everyday the first time I start the car. The gauge indicates that either the coolant fluid is low, or the car is overheating. Neither is the case. The dealer can't fix it.

The windshield wiper fluid low indicator doesn't come on, even when the fluid runs out. I suspect some idiot at the dealer switched the temperature gauge and the windshield wiper indicator wires. They both started acting up after I took the car in for service. (when they replaced the radio).

The car drives great.

Has lots of room.

Has way too many problems.

Will never buy a Volkswagen product again.

My roommate has a 1.8T Jetta and has many more problems than I do. She has to get towed every couple weeks. Her car is almost off warranty, and I suggested she sell it, and take the loss.
