I bought a 2001 VW GTI manual V6 this year when it was 24000 miles. It was certified pre owned.
I fixed a transmission leak immediately when I bought the car. I had to change the battery already. The side view mirrors donot respond to the controls. The rearview whiper just doesn't work. CD player controls through the steering wheel does not work.
I was quite lazy in taking the car to the dealer to fix the issues under warranty as my previous experience with the dealer was bad. You have to get an appointment two weeks ahead and the dealer takes his own sweet time to get it fixed. Anyways, I had a scare last week because my side view mirrors were not set properly. So I wanted to set it up properly through the controls. So overcoming my laziness I took it to the dealer to fix the side view mirror control under warranty.
They were so so mean. My warranty had expired only a week ago. They just bluntly refused.
The service cost is extremely huge compared to japanese cars like toyota, honda.
Guys VW pre owned certified warranty is useless. You will have to pay for everything anyway. Also VW service is extremely bad and costly.
Even if the warranty has expired by just one day, you should not expect it to be fixed for free.
That's just the way it is.
Yes, I agree totally VW service is generally very bad compared to other manufacturers. They rarely agree to fix things under warranty. Most of the other manufacturers are quite nice and liberal.
It sounds as if you wanted a dealer to pay for your, self admitted, reluctance to bring the car in while still under warranty. Warranties have to end somewhere, and it pretty much has to be a "line in the sand", especially in some states, or they have to extend the warranty to everyone on that item.
If the manufacturer's warranty has expired, and the dealer does the repair - they eat it. Period.
There are lots of terrific dealers out there. I've seen them eat repairs such as yours for people who consistently service there. They have to take in some money in order to give some away, after all, as they don't make much on car transactions these days (at least not what they used to before Internet).
