The Moldings is peeled after 2 years both side.
I replaced my muffler at 60,000 miles,
when mileage reach at 85,000 miles the whole exhaust system fell apart, Clutch is gone and replaced.
Seat in front driver side cannot be fold anymore because the cable broke.
At 93,000 miles I noticed white smoke is coming out to the exhaust.
The engine and transmission is very good and reliable, The body and suspension is very good, but other than that is problematic.
The reputation and quality of the Volkswagen was compromised by chip labor in Mexico.
Who is to say that Mexicans cannot put cars together at the same level as Germans or Brazilians, or what have you?
It is NOT the people who put these cars together that make a difference. Case in point: the 1999-2005 VW Jetta/Golf. Whether or not Jettas or Golfs were built in Mexico, Brazil, or Germany, they had the same problems. In fact, almost all of the 1999-2001 model year Golfs/GTIs were German-built and had the most problems! A Jetta/Golf/GTI uses German designed parts; Mexico is just the place where the cars are put together. In 2004, the (Mexican built) VW Jetta 2.0L was one of Consumer Reports most reliable small cars, with 10 problems per 100 cars.
When a VW throws a Check Engine Light, or has a window regulator fail, the fault lies with the part - not with the person putting the car together.
On a side note, VW no longer makes cars in the USA. Their USA operations ended in 1988 due to low sales.
Do you think V.W. really cares? It employs cheap labor in Mexico, so it can make even bigger profits from you, and other V.W. buyers. I wouldn`t buy the car on principle. If I want a car assembled in a third world country, I don`t expect to pay a premium price for it. I`d rather buy a Chinese car, that is made in China. It would cost a fraction of what the V.W. costs, and might be just as durable and reliable.
