2000 Volkswagen Jetta review from North America

Had passenger side window regulator fail, in the first year of ownership.

Had glove box door fail, and cupholder fail, all of which were easily and cheaply replaced by someone who knows how to work on these cars, and uses used parts.

Glow plug harness fail in 2004.

Replaced Map sensor in fall 2005.

Replaced strut bearings last winter (Washington DC streets are quite rough)

Overall, considering that the car does have all the safety and luxury equipment of most large cars, reliability has been acceptable relative to other cars I have owned.

Price of repairs at dealers are prohibitif and technicians do often not seem trained to remedy failures, rather they chose to replace parts.

In 2002, was probably the best equipped and most comfortable compact car on the market.

Love driving it, excellent performance for such low horsepower rating, yet very high torque at low RPM. Great highway cruiser

Fuel mileage is simply fantastic, always between 40 and 50 miles per gallon city/highway. On highway always over 600 miles with comfrotable reserve before fill up.

Doe not liek the new model so much, lost much of its recognizeable character.

Bought it for 10,000 used at slightly below 60,000 miles, have driven it for only about 30,000 miles, and spent about 3,000 in repairs since I have had it plus fuel and oil andwear parts. So, it has been about average in maintenance costs.
