"I hate the '02, but I love the '04"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

I have read many reviews pertaining to the 2002 Volkswagen Jetta 1.8T, and as anyone who has owned one or been on this site and read, they are not what we all thought they would be.

However if you read further reviews about the 2004+ Volkswagen Jetta 1.8T, people who own this year Volkswagen have little to no problems. So for you 2004+ Volkswagen owners out there, do not pass judgement on those of us who have the 2002 model because there is one BIG difference. When I had my engine replaced for the SECOND time, I was told by a certified Volkswagen mechanic that when Volkswagen manufactured the 2002 1.8T Jetta's they mass produced them and do not follow the needed specifications, and this in return is why the 2002 is a piece of crap engine wise.

The interior does chip, you can't beat the pretty red and blue dash lights!!!

Volkswagen are comfortable, affordable and very nice automobiles, so whoever is consulting in buying a pre-owned/used 2002 Volkswagen Jetta 1.8T, please DON'T, you're buying a headache, although if you really like the car inside and out, BUY THE 2004, you won't be disappointed.

I love my '04, but I despise my '02. Hope this will help.

General comments?

Beautiful car, handles great, love the 17" wheels and dash lights. Very easy to customize, but very expensive to fix, (thank God for warranties).

Almost all car engines are "mass-produced", so I'm not sure what you're trying to say about the '04 engines--that they're hand-built? I assure you they're not!
