Turbo was a fiasco just getting a replacement when it blew. Having the timing belt done the mechanic used the old snubber (found out they are not re-usable later) a destroyed the top end... had to rebuild it. Has perpetual leaks that flood the floor on the driver and passenger sides. Trans makes all kinds of sounds... I'm sure its not long for this world...
While the style is nice, and I like the leather interior, pick up and acceleration, and of course the gas mileage, there is a cost to buy and a cost to own... the cost to own far outweighs the cost of buying it... you have to have a back-up vehicle and lots of extra $$$ to own a Jetta!
Every mechanic knows that timing belt or chain are garbage as soon it taking off the car...
I don't know how anyone can blow a stock turbo on a Jetta unless they abused the hell out of it? I have never ever seen or heard of this before. I have to guess you had an aftermarket turbo installed, which you abused and it blew. How is that VW's fault?
As for the timing belt, well, when you CHANGE your underwear do you put on a clean pair, or just put the fudge stained ones back on? Clearly your mechanic messed up, and that caused the head damage. Again, not VW's fault in any way.
