1990 Volkswagen Jetta GLI 16v review from North America

The heater core died shortly after I got the car, no big deal, it was never to the point of leaking on the floor, just steam, for a few thousand miles before I replaced it. however, the job was quite labor intensive being that I'm unfamiliar with German cars.

I blew a CV axle in the winter, I'm sure my hard driving had a major part to play in this, and I did beat on it quite hard after parking on a snow bank. other than that, it still uses a little bit of oil, mostly after road-trips doing over 80mph the majority of the time. I regularly drove over 100mph for over an hour, so I've become used to having to add half a quart after that kind of abuse.

The headlight switch has been intermittently giving me problems with the taillights.

Easily one of the best purchases I've ever made... it's fast, not blindingly, but gets out of it's own way quite well, I smoked a newer wrx, a riced out del sol, and my exgf's celica gt.

The car was acquired from the original owner and well taken care of, the interior shows 0 wear, there is a touch of rust on the trunk lip, the exhaust has been upgraded to a borla catback that sounds awesome, and the wheels downgraded to 14" alloys with pirellis that give a little more needed suspension (it's a hard riding car).

I've since upgraded the radio and replaced all 4 speakers (the fronts were beyond dead, spewing chunks on the dash). the glovebox is small, there are no cupholders, and the center storage unit is useless, all of it's contents fly out under anything more than moderate acceleration. THE HEADLIGHTS ARE REALLY CRAPPY. I'm replacing them with euro round units.
