2001 Volkswagen Jetta Mexico review from North America
"Great cars"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Check engine light.
Crayon/leather smell.
General comments?
So I just got this Jetta, and the first thing I notice is this funky smell. Two days later the check engine light came on.
The car is not new. I must add that not all Volkswagens have this smell. My brand new Golf did not have this smell. I also owned a 1994 Jetta GL (also used) that had this smell but very faintly.
However the Jetta has a great take off speed and handles pretty well, I loved both the 1994 and now the 2001. But I totally admired my Golf.
The VW service department however has a very good number of unqualified techs who more often than not will tell you something is normal, rather than taking the time to find and repair faults. I love VW cars, but I wish the service departments took as much pride in their work, as the great number of admant VW drivers take in their cars.
