2001 Volkswagen Jetta review from North America
"It's a nice car, I just was expecting more"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
I got the Jetta for my 16 birthday present. We bought it off eBay for around 5000 dollars.
Right when I turned on the A/C, the vents blew out this black foam that would blow over everything.
I had had the Jetta for not only a week before the check engine light came on. The maintenance guy said that it was the oxygen sensor and that replacement would be around 400 dollars.
The trunk pump broke... another $400.
It smells like crayons and burns through oil like there is no tomorrow.
The seats are hard to clean and the windows don't roll up properly.
The right front head light doesn't work, so I have to keep my brights on all the time so both of my headlights work right.
I drove my mom's Toyota Land Cruiser before I got the Jetta, and I like it a ton better. Buy a Toyota or Honda or Lexus, don't go for a German car... they suck and cost a lot of money to fix.
General comments?
I thought VW had excellent quality and reliability, but I was wrong. Buy something Japanese, you will be a lot happier and you will get your moneys worth.
