2001 Volkswagen Jetta VR6 review from North America
"Nice car, but I wouldn't buy another one"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
I have a used 2001 VW Jetta, and when this one goes, I probably won't buy another one.
At first it was a few basic problems; new tires, front end alignment, etc. After the warranty ran out, the problems REALLY started!
Like everyone, I had to get the front bumper replaced, or put back on twice (both times were my fault!) Then the skid plate came off, now my driver side window doesn't go up and down, and I'm being told it'll cost $760 to get fixed.
The check engine light came on, had to replace two blown O2 sensors $600, not even two days later, it came on again.
The brakes cost me almost $1,000 to get replaced.
Six new plugs and wires was about $900.
No crayon smell yet, there is no problem with the A/C, but I am getting tired of paying $50 for an oil change.
This is a nice car, could be better, but I wouldn't buy another VW.
General comments?
When you need it to go, it goes!
Too expensive to maintain, everything is German parts.
Handles really well, and comfortable to drive on long road trips.
Expensive to fill up as it only takes premium.
$50 for an oil change.
No complaints about the heat or A/C.
Great gas mileage on the highway.
