1999 Volkswagen Jetta review from North America
"Nice car, but russian roulette"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
2 weeks after I bought the car it would not come out of park. I took this in twice, the second time it was fixed.
Then, the car would not start. Took this in twice.
My check engine light started coming on a month later. I had the car in about 7 - 8 times in for this over the next year. 4 times in one month. The Oxygen sensor was replaced and eventually recalled, but it took a few times for it to stop.
I go through lots of oil. It will go from full to EMPTY in 1.5 months and I don't drive very far (work a mile from my house).
At 26000 (warranty is 24000) my rear breaks went and VW was going to charge me a riddiculous amount.
NOW at 35000 my drivers side window fell off the track and the check engine light is back on. I am VERY frustrated.
General comments?
I really want to love my jetta. When it runs it is a neat little car. Nice interior - back seat is cramped. But the problems are insane. And evey person I know with a jetta or golf has the same list!! How can VW get away with this?
