"A Lemon"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Well first off I had the car for about a month and I needed a new oxygen sensor. A couple of weeks later I need a brand new sun roof, because it wouldn't close. Then about a month later my glove compartment collapsed. Then I needed another oxygen sensor. Then the dealership told me that I needed brand new tires because they were wearing unevenly. They were free, but it took a couple of weeks for the tires to come in. Then about my glove compartment collapsed again. Meanwhile my car doesn't even have 10,000 miles on it. Then every time I went over speed bumps my car made this annoying squeaky noise. So I brought to the dealership and the oiled it and said that there was nothing wrong with it. But it continued to make this noise. So again I took it to the dealership and they had my car for like 3 days and they still could not find what was causing the squeaky noise. I asked them if it could be the brakes and they said my brakes were fine. I went to an outside mechanic who told me I needed new brake pads and rotors. Meanwhile my car has only 23,000 miles. Again the glove compartment breaks. Then there is a recall to have your oxygen sensor replaced. I already have had two of them replaced. My middle console breaks and I had to pay 150.00 for a new one. My car still makes that squeaky noise when it goes over bumps and when I turn the wheel. I am burning oil like crazy. When my car changes gears it bucks and revs like crazy. My beverage cup holder in the front collapsed as well. My mat on the drivers side is almost completely worn out. Tell me what else can go wrong with a car that only has 24, 745 miles on it.

General comments?

I have a 2000 vw jetta... withing 2 months the glove compartment broke off and the rear cup holder broke. The driver side floor mat is worn to the floor at 35,000 miles. Middle console is broken. At 20,000 miles check engine light comes on and coolant temperature gauge replaced. At 30,000 miles the front driver's side falls of track AND needs new rear brakes. It was taken to an outside maintenance shop because VW wanted $450 for rear brakes. Now and 40,000 miles check engine light is back on and white smoke is spewing out of exhaust. I think it is time for a new car!

I have a 99 Jetta GLS with 85,000 miles on it. Basically, it has been a good car, but there have been some nuisances along the way. The brakes and tires needed to be replaced at 30,000 miles, and the passenger window fell in the door at about 75,000 miles. The dealer said that the window regulators were recalled (as was the oxygen sensor) and replaced both front window regulators for free (VW only covers the recalls for free until 70,000 miles, but this particular VW dealer was helpful, especially since they realized that my brother-in-law is famous and bought his daughter a VW there as well, hmmm...) The most annoying problem, however, has been the fact that the engine light has spontaneously turned on three times without cause (once at 10,000 miles, another at 50,000, and then just today!) It then has to be reset. I will say that the car has never broken down, but often makes noises that cannot be explained. The brakes make a grindy-squeaky noise even though they are in good shape, and the car makes a strange howling noise when going over bumps. The glove compartment broke at about 50,000 miles, as well as other small cheaply made plastic pieces inside the car.

I would never buy another VW again, not because the car is a TOTAL piece of crap, but because the customer service is inferior, and the car is not made well overall.

I've had a 2003 GLS.. this will be my 3rd summer with it and I have 45,000 miles on it. (I travel a long distance to work.) Even tho I have a problem here and there it seems to be holding up, but there are those "things" that the dealership can't explain. Such as why my car sqeaks LOUDLY when I am driving. And why my passenger side door rattles. I have brought it to VW many times and they keep telling me there is nothing wrong. My advice is make sure you buy an extended warranty because there seems to be bugs in GLS's that have not been fixed because they don't know how!
