General comments?

My '91 Volkswagen Jetta is the best car I have ever owned in my entire life. The car handles well on the road, gets excellent gas mileage, and is an exhilarating experience every time I get in.

The manual transmission is wonderful. The shifting between gears is unbelievably smooth. There is no other car to compare it to.

Anyone who wants to own a car that's fun to drive and economical, drive VW Jetta, you can't go wrong!

I also have a 91 jetta with a '92 gti engine in it. I love the car because it's solid, corners well, and gets great gas mileage.

I picked up a 91 jetta, automatic 3 speed, gas powered, I've only had it for a few months now and, i had to have it towed because of the alternator, and the transmission won't upshift into third gear for yet unknown reasons,2 mechanics checked it, one of them being a vw specialist, now the maintenance has been done consistently on it before I got it aand I haven't had it long enough to abuse it, I've also owned 5 1987 vw jettas, all manual transmissions and gas powered as well, one of them was even in showroom condition, never seen winter and was still problematic, they were all problematic except for the engines.

Everything that could go wrong went wrong, except for the engine, i strongly advise against getting one of these cars.

I purchased a 91 Jetta brand new, absolutely the worst car I've ever owned.

The first day, after driving 2hrs, turned it off to gas up, it wouldn't start back up. The entire time I owned the car, anytime you would drive it, then turn it off, it wouldn't start. Years later I found out this was a problem with the design, the placement of the starter was bad, it would get hot, and this caused it to not start.

The dashboard from day one made a lot of noise.

The tail lights eventually melted; you see the bulbs VW used were too hot, they melted the tail lights.

The muffler, after driving for a couple of months began to make a lot of noise, problem with the rubber brackets that hold the muffler, they needed to be replaced every three to four months, common problem with Jettas.

Before owning this car I was a huge fan of VW, but after owning the car I would never buy another VW again! Horrible car, made in Mexico BTW.
