2001 Volkswagen Jetta LX review from North America

I initially purchased a standard fully loaded Jetta. We were thrilled with the service and the dealership tried to imply we were like "family" and that they were there for us should any unforeseen problems arise. What a joke. Not 3 days later the auto indicator light came on when I pulled into my driveway and the car began to buck and stall. I called the service department and they automatically implied it was my driving. I finally convinced them to see my car, and it turned out to be a faulty "chip" that was affecting the fuel injection if that makes sense that then affected the shifting mechanism. I was given a fully loaded Passat to drive until they fixed the problem. Two weeks later I got my car and it wasn't, but a few days and the problem happened again. This time I was given a stripped down beetle and my car was gone for over a week. The problem occurred for the third time and the dealership did not want to know me. At our insistence we negotiated for a replacement under the lemon law, but requested an automatic transmission instead. The dealer claimed they had no such car on the lot, but my husband went on line and located several within walking steps from the dealer. We finally settled on a bare bones automatic Jetta as an equal trade. What a change in personality!! We were hustled out of there like a bad relation. The dealer wouldn't make eye contact with us and we felt as if we were the bad guys when all we wanted was a decent car, not a lemon. Especially after all the money we spent!! Now whenever I come in for routine service it is uncomfortable. My present car feels like just a utility vehicle. It is terrible in the snow and I would never do any business with them again.
